It’s Blog-Wise Wednesday – the day I link to a guest post that I believe will challenge you in a good way.

We’re growing wise together.

Do you know Shane Claiborne?  This week, I’m featuring an article he wrote for Esquire.  “What If Jesus Meant All That Stuff?” is, in a word,  gospel-ly.  In other words:  Good News-ly.  If our “religion” doesn’t convey the gospel (which means good news) to people, we’ve missed it somehow.

There are lots of facets to Shane’s message.

What jumps out and grabs you by the throat?

In Shane’s own words:

Shane writes and travels extensively speaking about peacemaking, social justice, and Jesus. He is featured in the DVD series “Another World Is Possible” and is the author of the several books including The Irresistible Revolution, Jesus for President, and Becoming the Answer to Our Prayers. Shane speaks over 100 times a year in a dozen or so countries and nearly every state in the US.   Shane’s work has been featured in everything from Fox News and the Wall Street Journal to CNN and National Public Radio.

Shane’s blog is here.    Follow Shane on Twitter here.   Follow Shane on Facebook here.

Laying My Pen Down

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

This past week was hard in a number of ways.  We’ve got some problems in our family that aren’t easy to solve. I’ve heard it said – small kids/small problems… big kids/big problems.  Right now I could wear the T-shirt .  What’s so difficult for me is being in an unfamiliar new role in life – no longer mommy… now  just mom.  As the parent of adult children, I am having to ask the Holy Spirit to adjust my way of thinking.  I need Him to show me how to do life with my kids now that I have handed them the pen to write the rest of their life story.  It’s a challenging shift.  I’ve had that pen in my hand for 21 years.

Relationships in life can bring pain and this week I’ve wrestled with my share of it. Jesus was right when He said “in this world you WILL have tribulation“.  Not if… He said when.  The thing is, I have to remember what He said next.  Take courage, I have overcome the world“.   I can’t tell you what He meant entirely, but I can say this:  He  overcomes anything in me that I bring Him to work on.  Pain, disappointment, frustrations, unforgiveness, doubt… I haven’t found a thing He hasn’t been willing to roll up His Spirit sleeves and fix.  Yes, it’s a process, but I’m convinced that’s because He likes us so much and it’s the only way He gets us to hang around a lot.   You know how kids are – fix what’s wrong and they’re gone again till they need something else.

Well, that’s been my little week recap of sorts.  I wouldn’t want to do the days over, but at the same time God’s been ever present.  My helper. In my time of need.

This short video link below explains a lot.  It’s worth watching. I’ve had it stored for a while and don’t remember where it came from.  I honor the person who made it – thank you for helping me explain God in my life… a little better.

Worth Doing Over

Let me know what you think.

ShiftEach Wednesday here at C Note’s, I link to a guest post that I believe will challenge you in a good way.  I know these writings have already made me wiser in my God journey.    Be sure to visit the selected site, and leave a comment so they know you dropped by.  Then come back - we want to know your thoughts as we discuss the post here!

This week I’m highlighting Think Again, a post from Bob Hamp at his Think Differently blog.

In his own words, Bob has  ”the greatest job in the world.  I work for a large non-denominational charismatic church in Southlake, Texas.  I am in charge of what we call Freedom Ministry.  We want to help people encounter God, as we believe that this restores people to their created identity and purpose.  Their factory settings as I like to say”.   “I am not a particularly religious guy for a pastor, I just want to help people become who they are”.

Bob’s messages always challenge me to – yes – think differently.  I’m thinking they may have the same effect on you.
