Found this quote today by John Owen – a 15th Century theologian – and it reminded me of what you said here Holly.

“When someone acts weak, negligent, or casual in a duty – performing it carelessly or lifelessly, without any genuine satisfaction, joy, or interest – he has already entered into the spirit that will lead him into trouble. How many we see today who have departed from warmhearted service and have become negligent, careless, and indifferent in their prayer life or in the reading of the Scriptures. For each one who escapes this peril, a hundred others will be ensnared. Then it may be too late to acknowledge, “I neglected private prayer,” or “I did not meditat e on God’s Word,” or “I did not hear what I should have listened to.”

Holly your reminder of the transforming power of God’s word is so needed. Even in the “Christian world” there is a temptation to seek out every other method to solve a problem rather than FIRST going to God and His word for an answer.
Thanks for this reminder! His word not returning void ought to make us run to the scriptures and wield them as the powerhouse they are!

I love that you shared this simple but successful strategy for consistent change. Awesome!

There are a couple of them. But one of them is that the bible is a book whose text have proven itself to be worth dying for.
The bible has changed more lives than all other books on earth combined.
The bible is one book that has productively made ot through time; After over 3000 years, the book is still relevant.
And the last, but not the least, is that the bible has tranformed my life for good. No other book offers more hope for man than the bible.

This is right where I am living, Holly. Such a timely word for me. I’ve faced the depravity of my own soul in a weeping heap on the living room floor some years ago. I’ve been sorting out the who I am and that thing He created just for me that allows me to bring His nature and Kingdom here to the earth. And finally, I’m discovering the way God gives life to me while allowing me to bring His life to others in such powerful ways. It is a uniquely gratifying and humbling experience the way God works us into these creatures of His glory. Love this.

HMMMM! So many ways I can answer this question. When read do not fear, I think of NOT CONFESSING THEM OUT LOUD!

Really. I spent so much of my life fearing the future, bad things happening to the ones I loved, that things would never change, that I would never change or someone would find out my awful truth and somehow disqualify me as a valuable contributing member of society… Until, one by one my worst confessed fears came to life right before my very eyes. My life rocked in up-heaving, grief and despair. I had to get FREEDOM Ministry and unearth the lies behind all that fear and one by one they fell away. Now when I read those passages on fear I rest securely in the arms of My Daddy God whose perfect love casts away every fear.

My refrigerator sports a magnet that reflects this truth for me, “Do one things that scares you every day.”

Just because the thing before me is some vast unknown, daunting, scary thing – it doesn’t mean I have to be afraid! Love you Colleen & Lisa. Love Deep Breathing when I get the chance.
