Blog-Wise Wednesday.27

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

It’s Blog-Wise Wednesday – the day I link to a guest post that I believe will challenge you in a good way.

We’re growing wise together.

I found the featured blog post this week through a twitter tweet.  My twitter friend @karenbyrne sent it out and the words “Deep Breath” in the tweet caught my eye (of course)!. I clicked the link and discovered a blog called, It’s about growing up, by Duncan Phyfe.

In his post called Deep Breath, Duncan discusses “resetting yourself”.  He describes an activity he learned long ago.  Maybe it will help you, maybe it won’t.  I’m going to promote it anyway.  After all, it’s called…

Deep Breath.

In Duncan’s own words:

The only thing I could find on Duncan was his twitter profile.  No picture. Here’s what he says about himself: Interested in technology specifically to build the body of Christ.  Follow him on twitter @duncisms.

Smart Jesus

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

In my bio I make the statement of how smart God is.  Here’s an example.  Religious leaders were questioning Jesus and trying to trap him.  A yes to their question would mean he supported Rome which would turn the people against him.  A no would bring accusations of treason bringing civil penalties.  But he was God smart.

Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words.  They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?   Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”

But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.” They brought the coin, and he asked them, “Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?”   ”Caesar’s,” they replied.

Then Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”

And they were amazed at him.   Mark 12:13-17

Aren’t you glad we have a smart God?

(F)unny (O)f (T)he (D)ay 2 – Four Catholic Ladies

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Four Catholic ladies are having coffee together. The first one tells her friends, “My son is a priest. When he walks into a room, everyone calls him ‘Father’.”

The second Catholic woman chirps, “My son is a Bishop. Whenever he walks into a room, people say, ‘Your Grace’.”

The third Catholic woman says smugly, “My son is a Cardinal. Whenever he walks into a room, people say, ‘Your Eminence’.”

The fourth Catholic woman sips her coffee in silence. The first three women give her this subtle “Well…..?”

She replies, “My son is a gorgeous, 6’2″, hard bodied stripper. When he walks into a room, people say, ‘Oh my God…’.”

Hee, hee …

Walk The Way

Monday, September 20th, 2010

Are you like Jim’s dad?

That’s the provocative question at the end of a short video from walktheway.net.  I stumbled on this web site this week and I think it’s fantastic - for a couple of reasons.

#1 – I like that this guy talks short and sweet about faith issues.  The web is so convoluted with information and people trying to get our attention.  I know, I’m one of them too. That’s why it’s refreshing to me to find blogs and web sites that hold up a subject and then just trust the Spirit of God to deal.

#2 - These people are all about Jesus. There’s no self promotion in these videos.  It’s all about faith and Jesus.  That’s refreshing to me.

The web is an amazing tool in the hands of God.  There are no boundaries to who God puts in our path.  Jeff Klein and ReFrame Media are doing a great job.  You should check them out!

Progress Reports

Friday, September 17th, 2010

What’s your gut reaction to a sign like this?

Where do progress reports fit in your theology?

(For me, I’m in Christ so I get all A’s. Thank you Jesus!)

Check List

A while back I read that pastor Perry Noble of NewSpring Church in Anderson, South Carolina, shared four questions that he constantly asks himself to make sure he doesn’t lose his passion for Jesus, the church, or ministry.

These are seriously worthy questions for any Christian to ask themselves.  Better yet, ask the Holy Spirit how He thinks you’re doing in these areas concerning your relationship with God.

1. How much time do I spend listening to God?

2. Am I more concerned with being discovered or being developed?

3. Am I believing any lies?

4. Am I risking or am I playing it safe?

These are great conversation starters with God.

Jesus said, ”Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.  John 7:7

Four Questions.

You willing?

Blog Wise Wednesday.26

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

It’s Blog-Wise Wednesday – the day I link to a guest post that I believe will challenge you in a good way.

We’re growing wise together.

This week, check out my friend Elaine Johnson’s creative adventure at her Around My World In 80 Days blog. I’m zeroing in on the #39 Standing Tall because I love what she has to say about what came through her brush. I encourage you to read her first post to understand her journey, and scan through the others asking the Holy Spirit to stop you where He wants to. I believe He’ll say something to you as you travel for a few minutes with Elaine through her 80 days of faith.

If He does say something, share it with us in a comment!

 In Elaine’s own words:

I am a 40-something woman figuring out life just like you. In ways I am just beginning. I love LOVE and everything that brings – maybe even the heartache – because I believe with everything I’ve got that all of life, even the tough stuff, has meaning. I look for it in everything.
